About Me – From Words to Ports
Hello, I’m Özgün Çağlar Çay.
I hold a degree from the Maritime Faculty of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and began my career as an Oceangoing Unlimited Deck Officer.
During my years at sea, I gained first-hand experience in port operations, international maritime procedures, and crew coordination, visiting numerous countries and ports around the world.
Over time, I transitioned from ship operations to language and documentation management, combining my maritime background with communication and precision.
For more than two decades, I’ve worked across a wide range of industries — from global pharmaceutical companies to logistics and technical translation projects — specializing in multilingual documentation, quality assurance, and process coordination.
Today, my focus is to return to the maritime field, bringing together the discipline of seafaring with the clarity of multilingual communication.
I am particularly interested in operational and documentation-based positions within the Antwerp–Rotterdam–Ghent maritime corridor — Europe’s most dynamic shipping region. In line with this goal, I am actively studying Dutch, alongside my fluent English, to better integrate into the Benelux maritime environment and communicate effectively within the ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Ghent.
My personal initiative, “From Words to Ports,” represents this transition — a bridge from language to logistics, from translation to coordination, from words to ports.
It embodies my mission to merge linguistic precision with operational awareness in Waterklerk, Boarding Agent, or Maritime Operator roles.
